Various complementary radio access networks (RANs)
will be used in combination with next generation cellular radio technologies
to provide full coverage and advanced services. In particular, the IEEE
802.11 and 802.16 wireless technologies are expected to be key complementary
RANs used to achieve broadband wireless services with varying degrees
of mobility.
The objectives of this project are to enhance these technologies with participation in IEEE802.11/16 standards activities and achieve higher spectrum utilization efficiency for the mobile operator use. Currently we work on a variety of challenges, such as seamless mobility support and handoff mechanisms, seamless AAA during handoff, low power consumption for adhoc networks, and QoS assurance including support of real time applications. The scope of the project also includes tight collaborations with NTT DoCoMo R&D departments to bring our contributions into the real world.
