Mobile middleware project focuses on providing intelligent support for applications on devices and for enabling intelligent communication between devices and the network nodes. Middleware layer provides network services for the phone such software and data management. It is critically important that we are to provide advanced management of the phone after we have given them to our customers. We will need to provide simple over the air updates and upgrades as well as complex on device self management features. This is likely to reduce the number of recalls that our phones will experience. As another example, mobile users often experience periods of disconnection. An intelligent middleware layer can mask brief periods of disconnection. Our research into middleware focuses on efficient communication management, efficient reconfiguration of applications and systems based on system conditions, and efficient repartitioning techniques for applications.
